Never Miss a Birthday With Yar Occasion Reminders
The Yar team · · 2 min read

Living far from family means many important days arrive quietly. A sister's birthday, your parents' wedding anniversary, a nephew's first birthday: you remember them, but often a day too late, when a phone call is all you can manage. Yar's occasion reminders are a simple way to fix that.
How occasion reminders work
In your Yar account, open the reminders page and save the dates that matter to you, such as birthdays and anniversaries. About a week before each date, Yar sends you an email. That gives you enough time to choose a gift, write a message and have it delivered, whether the person lives in Kabul or in another province.
Which dates to save
- Birthdays of parents, siblings, grandparents and the children in the family
- Wedding anniversaries, including your parents' and close relatives'
- Engagement or wedding dates of relatives you cannot attend in person
- Other personal days that your family celebrates
Many Afghan families know birthdays by the solar Hijri calendar. If a relative tells you their birthday falls in Hamal or Qaws, for example, convert it to the Western calendar date and save that date, so the reminder arrives on time. If you are not sure of a date, ask a parent or an older sibling; they usually remember.
What to do when the reminder arrives
A week is enough time to plan without rushing. Use it to ask a family member quietly what the person would like, choose between flowers, a cake or a gift, and write a personal message for the card. If the person lives outside Kabul, order early, because other provinces take a few days depending on distance.
For Kabul, there is a useful rule: orders placed before 2 PM Kabul time can arrive the same day before 6 PM; later orders arrive the next day. If you want the gift on the exact day, ordering a day or two ahead is still the calmest choice.
Small habits that help
- Add all your dates at once, while you are thinking about it.
- Keep each recipient's address and phone number in your notes, so the next order is quicker.
- Use the surprise option if you want the courier to only check that the person is home.
It only takes a few minutes. Set up your reminders today, and the next important day will not catch you by surprise.
